India - Italy trade: consulting services to enter the Italian market

Italy offers significant opportunities for Indian companies seeking to expand their business into Europe, develop commercial and industrial partnerships, and invest in the Italian market.

Our Firm assists businesses with company incorporation in Italy and market-entry processes, supporting them in assessing investment opportunities and business development prospects in the country.

Italy represents a strategic destination for Indian companies seeking to expand their presence in Europe, thanks to its strong industrial base, specialisation across numerous manufacturing sectors, and strategic position within the European market. In recent years, the economic, commercial and diplomatic partnership between Italy and India has steadily strengthened, creating significant opportunities for Indian businesses interested in investing in Italy and developing commercial and industrial relationships with Italian companies.

In 2025, bilateral trade in goods between Italy and India reached €14.25 billion, with Indian exports to Italy amounting to €8.55 billion and Italian exports to India totalling €5.70 billion. Indian exports to Italy include iron and steel, electrical and electronic equipment, machinery, chemicals, automotive products and textiles. At the same time, Italian exports to India are driven primarily by machinery and electrical equipment. This two-way exchange highlights the complementary strengths of the two economies.

The Italy–India partnership is also supported by numerous initiatives at the national level. Among these, the Italy–India Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029, signed by the governments of both countries in November 2024, identifies clean energy, defence, artificial intelligence and sustainable mobility as key areas of cooperation, setting a shared target of reaching €20 billion in annual bilateral trade by 2029. Furthermore, 2027 has been designated as the Italy–India Year of Culture and Tourism, providing an additional platform for dialogue and exchange between the two countries.

At the European level, there are numerous opportunities to strengthen the partnership between these two global economies. The most significant is the conclusion, in January 2026, of negotiations for the EU–India Free Trade Agreement (EU–India FTA), described by the European Commission as “the world's largest free trade area”. The agreement provides for the elimination or reduction of tariffs on 96.6% of tariff lines. Its implementation is expected to create new opportunities for Indian companies seeking to expand their exports to Italy and other European markets, while strengthening commercial ties and facilitating greater economic integration between India and the European Union.

Against this backdrop, our Firm positions itself as a qualified partner for Indian companies seeking to invest in Italy or consolidate their presence in the Italian market. Drawing on its experience in supporting businesses throughout their international expansion, the Firm assists clients in assessing business opportunities, incorporating companies and managing the corporate, administrative and organisational aspects of entering the Italian market. Its aim is to provide tailored support at every stage of the process, helping Indian businesses establish a solid presence in Italy and pursue their long-term growth objectives in Europe.
